Maya Carter is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern at Quilted Heart Therapy, where she works with individuals and couples navigating life transitions, relational challenges, and the emotional weight of caregiving and stress.
Her work is rooted in a systemic and narrative approach, helping clients make sense of their experiences, separate themselves from problem-saturated stories, and reconnect with their values, identity, and sense of agency. Maya creates a space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported, while also gently challenging patterns that no longer serve them.
Maya has a particular interest in Medical Family Therapy, supporting individuals and couples impacted by illness, caregiving roles, and the ways health challenges shape relationships and emotional well-being. She understands that healing doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens in context, in relationship, and in the stories we carry.
Her style is warm, collaborative, and grounded. She believes therapy should feel like a place where you can exhale, show up as you are, and begin doing meaningful work at your own pace.
Maya is currently completing her clinical training at National University and works under the supervision of a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Fun Fact:
Maya is also a writer and historian at heart, with a deep appreciation for storytelling, ancestry, and the narratives that shape identity across generations.
